How long have you been in security & what drew you into the industry?
I started in security in November 2015 so I'm approaching my second year. Actually, I was in a car accident so I needed to find something that suited and did not irritate my injury. Because working with and helping people was what I liked doing, security fit both my needs and passion.
What unique traits do you feel women bring to security?
I've realized women have an easier and different way of calming situations down. So far, I haven't had any issues yet on de-escalating; we have a different approach to these situations. When I'm in situations where a client starts to get going, I see a huge difference on the response I solicit.
Why are women so important for the growth of the industry?
Because I don't believe it's a male-dominated industry and both males and females can very well succeed in their roles. The blend of the two is beneficial for the growth of the company.
How do you see women's roles evolving in the future?
I'm hopeful that there will be more and more women who get encouraged to join the industry. For the longest time, I was one of the few females in my branch.
What's the best piece of advice that you've been given that you'd like to pass on to women following in your footsteps?
We can do everything everybody else can. have no issues and don't be fearful, and never doubt yourself, really.
