November 2009

Vancouver Winners!

Performer of the Month
Kevin Wark – Electronic Arts

Kevin has been Site Supervisor at EA for some time now, and has always been looked upon as a natural leader by his crew and a reliable resource by his manager.  In addition to being the “guy that gets it done,” over the last month Kevin has demonstrated an incredibly customer service driven attitude.  As one of the OFA 2 Officers onsite, Kevin has handled his share of patients and has received numerous compliments for the genuine concern he shows to everyone who comes to him for help.  Kevin is a walking, talking definition of “The Paladin Difference” for his level of professionalism and superior customer service.  He’s an amazing ambassador for Paladin Security.  Keep it up Kevin.

Performance of the Month
Ioan Marion – BC Hydro Horne Payne, Burnaby

Recently, there has been a number of break and enters and thefts of high value metals from the storage area at BC Hydro Horne Payne.  This month, Ioan disturbed two suspects in a white pick-up truck who were stealing a reel of copper from inside the yard.  The suspects quickly fled the scene, but Ioan managed to give an accurate description of the individuals, as well as the vehicle and its license plate, to Burnaby RCMP.  A few weeks later, Ioan came across an insecure gate to the storage yard and noticed the same white pickup parked outside the fence.  The BC license plate on the front had been altered and differed from the rear plate.  Ioan again recorded all of this information, and contacted Burnaby RCMP.  Thanks to Ioan’s diligence, the RCMP now has a significant amount of information in which to charge these individuals.  A tremendous example of security in action!  Good job Ioan.

Unsung Hero
Levi Joseph – Vancouver Community College

Levi is a very deserving ‘Unsung Hero’ this month as he has been the anchor at Vancouver Community College for a great number of years now.  A leader to all around him, he is an Officer with a remarkable amount of dependability.  Never one to complain and always one to turn to with a problem, we wanted to take this opportunity to recognize all that Levi has done over the years, and all of the love and dedication  he has given to his site.  Levi, we are all very proud of you and recognize what an amazing commitment you have given to us over the years.  Keep it up.

Edmonton winners!

Performer of the Month
Andrew Smyth- DST

Andy is one of those remarkable Officers to be part of our Downtown Security Team, the Chief Fire Warden for the Standard Life Centre and co-chair of Edmonton's Joint OH&S Committee.  His excellent performance and extraordinary sense of commitment have been widely recognized by all our clients and tenants alike at this important site.  With hard work, a positive attitude and superior customer service, Andy has earned the respect of his fellow workers in the DST and is a very deserving ‘Performer of the Month.’  Keep up the good work Andy.

Performance of the Month
Reginald Boland- Parking Enforcement / Marc Maclean - Independent Jewelers

This month, we have not one but TWO ‘Performance of the Month’ winners; something which we are very proud of here in Edmonton!  The first goes to Reg for his help on October 4th.  EPS was looking for an individual involved in an abduction when Reg recognized the description of the vehicle involved as one had attended to two days before.  He checked with dispatch the name of the suspect, and saw that it matched the complainant’s from the previous incident.  Reg supplied EPS with the suspect’s new address and cell phone number, which the police used to apprehend the suspect and he was charged with numerous offences.  At the end of Reg’s shift, the staff sergeant called him personally to thank him on behalf of EPS for a job well done.  Great memory Reg!  Our second is for Marc Maclean.  During a routine evening shift at the Independent Jewelers store, Marc witnessed three large individuals park their vehicle and enter the site.  He made a note of the license plate and called it into EPS, where it was discovered that the vehicle was stolen.  EPS had been looking for the vehicle for several days, linked to its involvement in several robberies throughout the city.  The suspects came out and left quickly, leaving the stolen vehicle behind.  EPS arrived soon after and, while no arrests were then and there, Marc was instrumental in recovering not only a stolen vehicle but also an important piece of evidence to lead to the successful arrest of the individuals.  These are two examples of the continued professionalism and diligence of all our Security Officers who truly take ownership of their sites.  Keep it up!

Unsung Hero
Jay Vitt - Independent Jewelers

Another exceptional Security Officer from Independent Jewelers is Jay.  He has been an exemplary employee with Paladin since June 2009 and is always punctual, impeccably dressed and ever reliable.  A great asset to our team, to show our appreciation for Jay and his quiet ways, he is this month’s ‘Unsung Hero’ and deservedly so.

This month, Sam managed to apprehend a couple of unidentified persons who were attempting to gain access to the Statesman Site. On hearing their reason for entering, Sam's suspicions grew as their story just had too many holes for him to believe it. Sam immediately called for back up and through his quick actions helped to thwart the attempted theft of some very valuable tools. Well done Sam, you saved the client some precious money and you did us proud. He has helped to build our strong foundations there and has proven himself to be a vital part of the team. Aside from his professional manner and exceptional customer service skills, Joe has accepted training in OH&S so as to assist with the requirements of our COR audit in Calgary, in which we hope to succeed with flying colours. Joe, we want to congratulate you for your unceasing dedication and high level of performance at one of PSG Calgary's most demanding security sites. You're the walking, talking definition of “The Paladin Difference” and for that we thank you.

Toronto Winners!

Performer of the Month
David McGratten – Brampton Civic Hospital
Maciej Laczny – Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital

For the first time in Paladin history in Ontario, we have a tie for our Performer of the Month! Both winning Officers this month have been recognized by their peers for their utmost in professionalism and their superior levels of performance. First off, it?s the turn of David McGratten who was nominated by his supervisors for several reasons including being one of the hardest working Officers in the field and the best role model for his fellow workers. His communication skills and can-do attitude have been praised by all those who know him, so well done Dave. The other deserving Officer is Maciej who, although one of the newest members of the team, was nominated by his fellow Officers for his customer service oriented personality and strong work ethic. He has already established himself as an excellent and reliable Officer on site, and we couldn?t imagine the team without him. Well done boys, this just goes to show we have some of the best Officers around.

Performance of the Month
Michael Ruigrok – Headwaters Healthcare Centre

This month, the town of Orangeville faced another tragedy. A woman and her child died in a car accident and when the family of the two victims arrived at the hospital to view the bodies and to say goodbye, it became apparent that there was a shortage of staff to clean up the bodies. Michael saw the situation and took it upon himself to assist with the cleaning and dressing of the bodies as best he could. He then escorted the family members, including the husband/father of the victims, to and from the morgue. This was a truly traumatic experience for everyone involved so we wanted to give our sincere thanks to Michael for going above and beyond what is expected of him. You made a big difference to this grieving family and you are truly a great ambassador for Paladin.

Unsung Hero
Amarjeet Bawa – Trillium Health Centre

“Consistent, professional and role model” are just some of the words that staff at the Trillium Health Centre have used when writing about Amarjeet. Amarjeet has been working at Trillium since 2006 and has become a fixture in the security team. Amarjeet uses his experience in security to coach and mentor new Officers and his quality of work has not waivered throughout his years with the company; something that makes him the perfect example of an Unsung Hero. Well done Amarjeet, keep up the good work.

For McMurray Winners!

Performer of the Month
Malcolm MacQueen – Mobile Patrol

Mobile Patrol Officer Malcolm MacQueen is someone you want to have on your team!  During a routine patrol last month, Malcolm heard five to six loud bangs coming from the stairwell of Tower 2 and so ran to investigate.  As he did, he came across a man running down the stairwell, brandishing a gun.  As he made his getaway, Malcolm radioed Security Officer Hardy to be on the lookout for the man, and ran to the assistance of the victim.  He hurried on up the tower where he encountered a lifeless male.  He had been shot numerous times and was left for head.  Malcolm immediately put in a call to the police and contained the area until they and the emergency response teams arrived.  Had it not been for his quick-thinking and cool head, he could have had a much more serious situation on his hands.  Well done Malcolm.

Performance of the Month
Brian Wooning – JackPine Site

Brian is an exceptional Security Officer who has been recognized by all the contractors at the Shell Albian Sands site for his respectful, professional and polite manner.  His superior customer service has been noted by all around him and all comment on what a pleasure he is to work with.  Everyone he comes across leaves with a smile, one manager saying: “The fact that he looks at your badge, greets you by name and tells you to have a nice day starts you off on such a positive note, please pass my thanks onto this gentleman for a job well done.”  Keep up the good work Brian, whatever you’re doing you’re doing it right!

Unsung Hero
Corey Tretiak – All Sites
