Paladin Superstars!

Every month, we recognize three Paladin Superstars for their outstanding work.

Vancouver Winners!

Performer of the Month
Alex Hordiyenko – Brian Canfield Center (Telus)
When we sat down to discuss this month’s award winners, we were simply blown away by the overwhelming comments we received for Alex.  Recently promoted to Site Supervisor at the Brian Canfield Center, Alex has already made a huge impact and, in his first two months alone, has wowed his Client Service Manager Chris Anderson with his professionalism, customer service skills and absolute dedication to the site.  “Alex’s level of energy, integrity and commitment to the job is unsurpassed.  He goes above and beyond every day and has made an amazing change at the site,” said Chris.  Alex’s impressive work ethic has earned him the respect of his security team, praise from tenants and contractors alike, and recognition from the property management staff.  Alex is the definition of what it means to be a Paladin Officer, making a difference each day to everyone he meets.

Performance of the Month
Dave Razak, Gary Bradley, Sam Su, Jason Wong, Victor Fung – VGH
Healthcare Security Officers are often witness to much more than usual and are expected to deal with a great amount and respond appropriately at all times.  The above Officers were thrust into an extremely difficult situation and handled themselves and the incident with unmatched maturity and quick-thinking.  A call came through to Security that a patient had jumped from the roof top.  Acting quickly, the team was soon on scene providing First Aid to the jumper until Paramedics could arrive and take over.  Once Paramedics and the VPD had arrived, the team switched to an access control capacity and began to direct the public and traffic from the accident scene.  Shortly after, media personnel arrived on scene and, unphased, the team respectfully removed them from the scene and contacted Paladin’s Media Relations Officer.  This was an extremely well handled incident and each Officer performed admirably.  “No matter the situation, you can always count on a VGH Security Officer” – CSM Raymond Chow.

Unsung Hero
Shazia Khan – EA Sports
Shazia has been a staple at EA for a few years now.  She has never been one for big “over-the-top accolades,” commented Site Manager Jason Davis, “but she performs her duties each and every day with a kind of enthusiasm that touches everyone.”  Shazia is known for helping out anyone, be it a staff member, visitor, fellow Security Officer or just a person in need.  She is hard-working, dedicated, reliable and loyal.  Shazia, thank you so much for the stability you have provided year after year!

Winnipeg Winners!

Kayla Peters – Grace Hospital
Kayla is a tremendous ambassador for Paladin!  She shows up for each of her shifts dressed professionally and with an indomitable attitude.  Always able to go the extra distance, Kayla has demonstrated on several occasions that she is willing to step up and do what needs to be done in order to help our customers, and her fellow co-workers.  No matter what the situation, Kayla has shown that she is able to take control and ensure that the issues are dealt with quickly, professionally and with “grade A” customer service!  Kayla’s attitude and work ethic create a dynamic work environment and demonstrates exactly what Paladin is all about!

Kayla’s abilities were in action last month during a routine visit.  A crowd had started to gather around the Security Office with each person wanting something different. Kayla took control in a very professional manner maintaining her positive attitude. Her supervisors were very impressed with how Kayla took charge and delegated each individuals needs, and got everyone to the right place without any confusion. Great job Kayla keep it up!

Performance of the Month
Vipen Sharma – MLCC
On his very first shift withPaladin, Vipen was posted at one of our new clients MLCC (Manitoba Liquor Store) sites.  If he was at all nervous he didn’t let it show.  Even though it was his first shift, Vipen was not hesitant about his duties.  Noticing some suspicious activity from one of the customers in the store, Vipen observed the subject pocketing a bottle of liquor. Following proper company procedure, Vipen approached and apprehended the shoplifter with theassistance of MLCC staff and recovered the stolen goods.  Not a bad first day!

Vipen, we look forward to your continued professionalism and diligence while on duty with Paladin.A fantastic job!

Every time Boo is called upon to help fill a shift, without hesitation, he always answers the bell. Even if it’s not at his normal site, it doesn’t matter to Boo!  Willing to go wherever he’s needed, Boo has demonstrated an unwavering commitment and a reliability that is unmatched.  His effort and dependability have helped out in countless situations throughout the month.  We know that wherever Boo goes, he will be ready and will be a beacon of professionalism and pride.

Michael Barber – Sturgeon Hospital
Michael joined the Paladin family back in March 2010 when Paladin was awarded the Alberta Health Services contract and hasn’t looked back since. Michael is a natural-born leader who is a mark of stability at the Sturgeon Hospital in St. Albert. Always professional, he is looked upon very highly by his fellow Officers, Hospital staff and visitors alike. Michael will be the first to lend a hand and help out in any way he can from picking up extra shifts to mentoring his team. Thank you Michael for you hard work and dedication, we literally couldn’t imagine life without you!

Performance of the Month
Amandeep Ghuman – Standard Life Centre

While patrolling the 19th floor of the Standard Life Centre recently, Amandeep found a water leak above a desk in one of the offices. He discovered that several of the ceiling tiles had already fallen onto one of the desks and more were about to fall onto another. Amandeep contacted the building operators immediately and, while he waited for back-up, he began to assist by placing pails under some of the leaks to catch the water. Amandeep, your quick actions resulted in minimal loss to our client’s property so for that we thank you. Way to go!

Unsung Hero
Shawn Cordeiro

Shawn is yet another example of the kind of staff that Paladin has the privilege to employ. Shawn is a very dependable Officer and, come rain, hail or shine, you will find him out on duty. He does his job to the best of his abilities and provides nothing but top service to our clients. Recently, Shawn worked an extra shift with no complaint, instead simply stating that the job had to be done and he was the one to do it! It’s because of this steady performance and the high calibre of work that he provides that Shawn has recently applied to and succeeded in gaining a position as one of our LPOs. Well earned Shawn, keep up the good work!

Calgary Winners!

Performer of the Month
Iqbal Dhillon – Mobile Officer, Calgary
On a daily basis, Iqbal has continued to impress everyone at the Calgary office for his strong work ethic and positive attitude.  Iqbal’s approach to his work and his “can do” attitude is truly exceptionable.  He helps us out at the office in any way he can and accepts those tasks that to others might appear slightly daunting but to which Iqbal doesn’t even bat an eyelid!  Iqbal, we want to say a big “Thank You” for your go-getter attitude and for making our jobs that much easier.  You truly are an asset to Paladin Security and to everyone at the Calgary office – we couldn’t imagine life without you.

Performance of the Month
Jenna Gillian – Canmore Hospital
Last month, a bad accident happened in Canmore that resulted in a lot of heightened activity and emergency response at Canmore Hospital.  Jenna kept her head and kept cool and did not let things get on top of her.  She assisted in any way she could and the picture of professionalism at all times, even in such a stressful situation.  We at Head Office received a lot of very positive feedback about Jenna and how she handled the situation and for that we thank her.  Good job Jenna, in all your time with Paladin we have heard nothing but excellent feedback and you really are a treasure to our organization and you should be very proud of yourself.  Keep up the good work and know that we truly appreciate the incredible job you are doing day in and day out.  Well done.

Unsung Hero
Corleonne Dian – South Calgary Health Care
Corleonne was faced with an unusual challenge this month, not concerning the public for once but a fellow Officer.  Corleonne and his colleague were sitting having lunch when his fellow Officer began to choke.  He stood up suddenly and almost immediately fell unconscious, falling face first into the desk.  Corleonne acted on instinct and reached out to catch the Officer before he fell to the floor and inflicted more damage.  Corleonne immediately called for assistance and luckily the Officer recovered…plus a few bruises!  Without Corleonne's quick-thinking, the situation could have been much worse and for that we are truly grateful, as is the Officer in question!  The good work never ends...

Toronto Winners!

Performer of the Month
Abdul Razak & Ashish Deshpande – Bridgepoint Health
This time around we have two very deserving Performer of the Month award winners in Abdul and Ashish at Bridgepoint Health.  It’s clear for everyone to see that these two Officers not only provide the Hospital with great service but they also represent the core beliefs that have made Paladin the company we are today – that is, excellence in customer service and service with a smile.  Over the past month, they two have dealt with numerous serious situations which, if handled incorrectly, could have resulted in the injury or even death of members of the community.  Z/S Hamdard attributes their timely response and professional manner for their success and would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ for their hard work and dedication.  Keep up the good work boys.

Performance of the Month
Basma Preston – St. Clair College
S/O Basma Preston was on duty one Sunday afternoon at St Clair College when two men representing themselves as owners of the cell phone recharging machines approached the Security desk and explained that they were there to pick up the machines as they needed to be repaired.  Since there were no notices of any pickups that weekend, Basma would not allow the men to remove the machines.  She then copied down the men’s names and drivers’ license numbers and instructed the two to return during normal working hours.  Later that month, the CEO of the media company who installed the phone recharging machines came to the College to remove the machine.  Unbeknownst to the Security team, the CEO explained to our staff that two men had been going from site to site and removing these machines which come at a cost of $10,000 each.  When told of the incident earlier in the month, the CEO was ecstatic to learn the degree at which Paladin personnel followed proper procedures and refused to let the individuals remove the machines.  Well done Basma, you saved the client a lot of money and a lot of heartache and your hard work has not gone unnoticed.  Congrats.

Unsung Hero
Lucas Watson – St. Joseph Healthcare – Mountain Site
Over the past few months, we have received a number of Incident Reports from St. Joseph’s – Mountain Site where S/O Lucas Watson has discovered trespassers, vandalism and a number of other incidents important to the site.  Lucas has been working the night shift at what would be considered a non-acute site and, if he were working with another security company, it would be very easy for him to “slack off” and fly under the radar but, with Paladin, he conducts himself in the utmost of professionalism at all times and completes his duties to the fullest.  Give yourself a big pat on the back Lucas, you deserve it.

Victoria Winners!

Performer of the Month
Neil McCullam  - Jr. Field Manager

As we all know in the world of security, anything can and does happen and, almost daily, new and ‘out of the ordinary’ tasks arise that need to be addressed immediately.  For that very reason, every Monday to Friday from 1000 to 1800 hrs without fail, one of our Junior Field Managers Neil is our “go to guy” whenever such a situation arises.  A jack of all trades who’ll do whatever it takes to solve a problem, Neil’s tireless efforts in all tasks assigned to him continue to be one of the backbones of our operations.  Neil is always ready with a story and a smile and somehow, no matter how many things he has on his plate at any one time, he still manages to find a way to crack us up with detailed accounts of his latest humorous encounter.  Neil, you make coming to work an absolute joy and we really love having you around.  Thank you for your ongoing dedication and continuing hard work and here’s to many more years of success within the Paladin family.  We couldn’t imagine life without you.

Performance of the Month
Aaron Maillet – Site Supervisor Pemberton Holmes

Aaron is another member of the Paladin fold who will go out of his way to help you in any way he can while putting a smile on your face in the process!  Last month, his ceaseless dedication and attention to detail helped police pick up a wanted criminal.  One day while on regular patrol at Pemberton Holmes, Aaron became suspicious after a couple of males started paying unusually close attention to his whereabouts and acting very strangely.  To be on the safe side, Aaron notified a local police cruiser about the suspicious activities and advised them to check it out.  After further investigation, it transpired that one of the males was wanted for arrest on a warrant and, had it not been for Aaron quick-thinking and precautions during patrol, the individual in question would have escaped the police’s grasp once again.  Congrats Aaron on helping to apprehend a known criminal and congrats also on your promotion to Site Supervisor, your passion for the job has not gone unnoticed.

Unsung Hero
Kelly Yaeger – BC Hydro

Kelly is a recent addition to our Paladin team in Victoria and so far has shown himself to be loyal, hard-working and extremely down to earth – all qualities we look for in our quality members.  Day-in and day-out, Kelly goes about his work at BC Hydro in an unassuming and professional way and is liked by everyone with whom he comes into contact.  We expect great things from you in the future, Kelly, and look forward to growing our working relationship with you and helping you to build a career within Paladin.  Keep up the good work and thanks for joining our team, you’re doing us proud.

For McMurray Winners!

Performer of the Month
Ashley Waito - Syncrude

It was immediately clear to Tony Osawru having completed five days of training with Ashley that this was an Officer who meant business. Ashley has become a very reliable colleague in a short amount of time and she already has an excellent understanding of the policies and procedures at Syncrude, which has been noted by several Corporate Security members onsite. Her attention to detail in her reports is second to none, which as we all know is a very important aspect of our job. Her positive attitude, willingness to work and limitless energy is simply refreshing and, since becoming 2IC of team 504, Ashley has quickly progressed to the high standards of her fellow Officers. Good work Ashley, keep it up.

Performance of the Month
Brittany Mc McCarthy - Shell Albian Sands

In short, Brittany is one of the most professional, caring and balanced Security Officers to all of her crew members at Shell Albian Sands. She is extremely capable of handling any situation that comes her way and is always willing to lend a helping hand filling shifts. Her current position at 413 can be very demanding but she handles the pressure without fail. Keep up the good work Brittany, keep making us proud.

Unsung Hero
Brahim Ali Abdoulaye – Syncrude

As Second-in-Command, Brahim has stepped up in his new role and is a pro at following the rules and regulations to make sure our Officers are on top of things onsite.
