Police seek power to listen in on crime

Vancouver police are unconditionally backing Bill C-30, also known as the Protecting Children from Internet Predators act.
The controversial “lawful access” bill would give police access to information on computers and phones of people believed to be involved in a crime, powers critics decry as too invasive. Vancouver Police Department Deputy Chief Warren Lemke, who also speaks for the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, told reporters Monday the bill was essential to public safety. Read more
