Applications for shipbuilding jobs flood in from around the world

VICTORIA — Nearly 1,600 resumes, some from as far away as Russia and Dubai, have poured into Seaspan Marine and union offices from applicants hoping to work on $8 billion worth of federal shipbuilding contracts in British Columbia.
The resumes starting arriving long before Prime Minister Stephen Harper travelled to Halifax and Vancouver on Thursday to announce umbrella agreements under which Irving Shipbuilding Inc. in Halifax and Seaspan Marine Corp. — where Paladin provides security services — with shipyards in Vancouver and Victoria, and will deal with each other in building the next fleet of Canadian navy ships, including icebreakers, Arctic patrol vessels and destroyers.
